Wind power specialist Boston Energy is encouraging more women to pursue careers in renewable energy through its Women into Wind campaign.
The initiative aims to address the gender imbalance in the fast-growing wind sector by offering training, mentorship and career development opportunities for women interested in the industry.
Boston Energy supports OEMs, developers and operators build and maintain offshore wind farms in the UK and Europe, with a range of technical services and has worked on more than 100 wind farms since 2012.
Despite the sector’s rapid growth, women remain underrepresented. Research from the International Renewable Energy Agency shows women make up just 21 per cent of the global wind workforce.
As part of its campaign, female members of the Boston Energy team recently attended a careers event in Scunthorpe organised by Greenport Hull in partnership with North Lincolnshire Council.
Boston Energy’s Chief People Officer, Michelle Williams, said:
“Wind energy is a crucial part of the UK’s sustainable future, and it’s vital that the industry attracts talent from all backgrounds.
“Through our Women into Wind campaign, we’re working to help more women discover the opportunities available in this sector and providing the support they need to succeed.”
Authorised Technician in Commissioning Tammy Din said: “I have been working for Boston Energy for around 5 months as a commissioning technician. I have transferred from engineering to the wind industry. Which I thoroughly enjoy. I put in my CV with Boston Energy and they have given me the chance I needed to progress within the wind industry and have also pushed me through my progression. There is no such thing as a man’s job!”
Boston Energy also supports people moving into renewable energy careers through its Transfer to Wind programme, which helps individuals retrain and transition into the sector.
