Boston Energy, a leading technical services provider to the wind energy industry, is proud to announce its partnership with The Headlight Project as the company’s Charity of the Year for 2025. This collaboration underscores Boston Energy’s commitment to supporting mental health initiatives and fostering community well-being.

The Headlight Project is a small charity based in the Tees Valley that supports those bereaved by suicide through specialist 1-2-1 counselling, play therapy for children, trauma therapies and support groups. The partnership will kick off with Boston Energy team member Izzy Prescott participating in the London Marathon on 27th April to raise funds and awareness for the charity.

Commenting on the upcoming marathon, Izzy said: “I’ve always been a keen runner and I was absolutely delighted to gain a place in this year’s Marathon – I know many people take years of applying to be able to get in! As soon as our charity committee confirmed our charity of the year, I knew that supporting it would make my taking part even more meaningful. I’ve been training hard – keeping not only the finishing line, but also the funds I’ll be raising for an important charity, in sight.”

The Headlight Project also delivers suicide awareness and prevention training throughout the Tees Valley in educational establishments and the workplace. They aim to provide the local community with the knowledge and skills to help reduce the number of deaths by suicide.

Jonathan Godber, Chief Financial Officer of Boston Energy, said: “At Boston Energy, we recognise that suicide is a leading cause of death in men under 40 and with our male-dominated industry are committed to positively supporting mental health, particularly in the communities in which we work. Partnering with The Headlight Project aligns with this commitment and our values, and we are proud of Izzy’s dedication to supporting this through her participation in the London Marathon.”

The work of the Headlight Project has never been more crucial. Suicide rates in the North East of England rose by 15.1% in 2023, and grief from suicide is particularly complex, with those bereaved at a higher risk of suicide themselves. In 2024, the project saw a 17% increase in referrals, providing over 2,350 support sessions – a 31% increase from the previous year.

“With the increased demand for services, the Headlight Project is incredibly grateful to Boston Energy for selecting us as their charity of the year. The fundraising efforts will play a vital role in helping us to support those in their darkest days, while also raising awareness in the local community,” commented the charity’s Chief Executive Officer, Anne Cullum.

Boston Energy encourages as much support of Izzy’s marathon efforts as possible. Further activities and fundraising events will be announced throughout the year as part of this ongoing partnership.
