Boston Energy makes senior appointments to capitalise on rapid growth of wind industry

Wind energy specialist Boston Energy has made two key appointments as the business looks to expand and strengthen its market position.

Stuart Davidson has joined Boston Energy as its new Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) while Laura Botham has been appointed as the company’s new Head of People.

Stuart’s career has spanned several continents and sectors including wind power, oil and gas, petrochemicals, food and drink, aerospace and utilities.

He brings with him global executive-level experience at companies including industrial services provider ERIKS, where he was Chief Operating Officer; technology manufacturer Norican Group; and emissions solutions provider Hoerbiger.

With a clear focus on growth, Stuart will also explore new business opportunities with a keen interest in helping the wind industry embrace circularity.

Stuart is an active participant in the Coalition for Wind Industry Circularity – a partnership including the University of Strathclyde, the National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland and SSE Renewables, which is working to create a circular supply chain for renewables in the UK.

He said: “Having worked across multiple sectors and disciplines, I always looked back on my time working in the wind industry with a great deal of affection.

“The industry has evolved at a remarkable rate and, within it, Boston Energy has carved out a really powerful brand and reputation for quality and consistency.

“I’m pleased to be joining the business at an exciting time for Boston Energy. I’m focused now on penetration in the market and ensuring Boston Energy capitalises on the huge growth which is being seen in wind power.”

Laura’s extensive career has spanned HR and project delivery working for companies including FTSE-listed food producer Cranswick, convenience foods company Greencore and wind power industry leader Siemens Gamesa.

While working as HR Business Partner at Siemens Gamesa in Hull, Laura steered the factory’s HR operations through the pandemic, working closely with trade unions, before progressing into a global talent and leadership role which saw her deploy talent programmes through the business, alongside her team in Spain.

Most recently, Laura worked as Head of People at leading supply chain partner Wincanton, where she successfully delivered a large scale transformation project for major client Sainsburys, before heading the people function for the Public and Industrial sector across the UK.

Laura is passionate about developing local skills and talent, and is a Governor at Hull’s employer-led school Ron Dearing UTC, as well as sitting on the Hull and East Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (HEY LEP) Skills Board and supporting the Hull University Business School.

She said: “I feel passionately about the Humber being a destination of choice for talent, helping businesses succeed and thrive and creating a skilled workforce of the future.

“Boston Energy is a proud Yorkshire-based business with values which closely mirror my own and I saw an opportunity here to implement a clear people strategy and create leadership pathways and capabilities in what is a highly-skilled and exciting young and growing team.

“Looking ahead, I’m keen to work closely with our partners on projects which can deliver real social value, showcasing Boston Energy as an employer of choice in the Humber region.”

Boston Energy CEO Julian Cattermole said: “I’d like to welcome both Stuart and Laura to Boston Energy, during a significant period of growth for the company.

“Between them, they bring a wealth of experience and knowledge of working both in the wind industry and broader business sectors, with proven track records of delivering fantastic results.

“As Boston Energy continues to grow and broaden its services, it’s vitally important we have the talented people in the business to support that trajectory. With Stuart and Laura, I am confident we have found exactly that.”

Based in Beverley, East Yorkshire, Boston Energy has over a decade of experience providing technical services and technical training to the wind energy industry, supporting both onshore and offshore wind farms across the globe, including in Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America.

Boston Energy’s client base includes the world’s biggest Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and wind farm operators, and it recently supported Dogger Bank, the world’s largest offshore wind farm, to generate its first power.

Leading private equity investor LDC backed the Boston Energy management team in July 2023 to support its international growth strategy.

James Marshall, Investment Director at LDC in Yorkshire, added: “With these latest senior appointments, Boston Energy continues to invest in two critical areas – its customer relationships and its people.

“It’s great to see the continued development of the leadership team and the combined experience of Stuart and Laura brings additional expertise that will further support the company as it continues to grow.”
