- Project: Solberg
- Service: Installation
Location: Sweden, Europe
- Project size: 76MW
- Duration: 4 months
Overview:
Solberg Wind Farm is based in Vasternorrland County in Sweden. The project consists of 22 x 3.45MW turbines with a total capacity of 76MW.
Sweden is renowned for challenging winter conditions in the northern part of the country, which can provide many challenges for projects in the area.
Boston Energy was brought in to support the customer in delivering the project on time through challenging conditions and with a tight turnaround.
Challenge:
The project faced significant challenges due to extreme weather conditions and an incident on-site which caused substantial delays. The customer was facing the following challenges:
- Substantial snowfall in the project area with temperatures down to -30*c
- There was a substantial amount of mechanical and electrical completion work required
- A reduced workforce availability during the holiday season
- The project required complete energisation by the 31st of December or financial awards would be forfeit
Solution:
Boston Energy worked closely with the customer from October through to December to achieve the target date. During which:
- Boston Energy worked with the customer to implement local winterisation protocols
- Our technicians were assigned key critical path tasks to achieve the aim of full site energisation prior to the target date
- Six Boston technicians and five customer technicians were deployed throughout the Christmas holidays to achieve the target date
- Two technicians installed the final three high speed shafts on New Years Eve enabling power generation to be achieved
Results:
- Work was completed on time despite challenging working conditions
- Power generation achieved on time from every turbine
- The reliability of our teams strengthened the relationship and led to future collaborations on projects
- The customer acknowledged that Boston Energy’s contribution effectively added €6 million to their financial end-of-year records
Thanks for working tirelessly during Christmas to facilitate the project at Solberg. Being great colleagues and showing passion for doing what we do. And last but not least, doing a great job at putting up and getting turbines to run.
