International Women in Engineering Day is an annual event \u201ccelebrating the amazing work that women engineers around the world are doing.<\/p>\n
One company keen to support this initiative and joining in with the celebrations is Boston Energy, a leading recruitment, training and maintenance service supplier in the Wind Energy industry, operating both onshore & offshore across the UK, Europe, USA & Africa.<\/p>\n
Margo Jagiello, UK Business Lead at Boston Energy, has worked in the wind energy sector for 4 years and, with 14 years in engineering and manufacturing recruitment, is a big advocate of encouraging more women to join the sector and begin their careers as technicians.<\/p>\n
Margo said: \u201cOne of Boston Energy\u2019s values is fairness and this is something that we are keen to support and encourage.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is currently a limited number of women in the industry and I am passionate about looking at ways to help them to cross the bridge.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are specific reasons as to why they might be put off but I think there are ways we can make it easier and more accessible for women to get started and enjoy a career in energy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Julia Wallace, a Service Technician who has previously worked for Boston Energy on a number of projects, is also keen to see more women get into the wind industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would recommend the wind industry to anyone wanting to get involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d love to see more women get into the wind industry. It\u2019s a great job to have and you never get tired of the office view.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve met some really great folks while at Boston Energy and I\u2019ve also travelled to several countries staying in places such as Germany, Denmark and Morocco.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the Humber region, where Boston Energy\u2019s head office in Beverley is situated, The Women into Manufacturing and Engineering initiative (WiME) aims to inspire more girls and women to consider careers in these industries.<\/p>\n
Kirsty Clode, chair of WiME, commented:<\/p>\n
\u201cNot only do careers in manufacturing, engineering and STEM provide great pay, prospects and exciting opportunities, but they can make a real difference to the world we live in.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom battling climate change, to medical advances, we rely on scientists and engineers to solve problems and make progress.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really pleased that Boston Energy is keen to improve the diversity of their teams.\u00a0 We need more organisations to positively encourage girls and women into their companies.\u201d<\/p>\n
