About the Project:

  • Boston Energy’s partnership with Vensys spans back to 2015, supporting them with their fleet of turbines across the UK. We initially began providing statutory inspection on all their 1.5MW turbines, which then progressed onto 2.5MW and 3.5MW as their portfolio in the UK grew.
  • Vensys has been a leading supplier to the global wind energy for over 16 years and has over 32,000 wind turbines generating 551.8GW worldwide. In the UK their capacity is 35MW across multiple sites, totaling 19 turbines.
  • To the present day, Boston Energy provides Commissioning, Maintenance, and breakdown support to all Vensys turbines in the UK.

 Summary

  • We began supporting Vensys by providing Statutory Inspection on all their UK turbines in 2015. After successful delivery, we were asked to also provide Commissioning support and later Maintenance support.
  • This involved Half-Year and Annual Service for each turbine along with breakdown support. As the turbines get older, more assistance in this area is needed. Now we are responding to around 5 callouts per month on top of the maintenance campaign of the 19 turbines currently installed, with plans for more to be built in the coming years.
  • Should they detect a fault or require assistance, our team are on hand for reactive maintenance and respond quickly and effectively to fix the issue and minimising downtime. Many callouts are responded to within 24 hours.
  • We have also assisted with Major Component Exchanges and Generator issues, supporting the Vensys team on site, to support wherever possible.
  • Barry Gillies, our lead technician on site manages the entire service schedule, selects the team, and manages the service.

Result

  • Through the success of this support, Boston Energy were awarded sole supplier for maintenance of Vensys turbines onshore in the UK.
  • Over the years we have achieved 97-99% availability on callout requests for breakdown support, ensuring minimal down-time on the turbine and avoiding large compensation charges.
  • Vensys are now looking to Boston Energy to support the Commissioning of their new turbines, the first of their type in the UK.
