Vestas – Pre-assembly, Triton Knoll

Issue
The supplier (a competitor to BE) who were awarded to deliver the majority of this project were chosen based on the promises made to deliver their solution at an extremely low price (as we understand it). However, the supplier was not able to satisfactorily deliver the volume of quality tower technicians that were requested or with the relevant skills and experience due to uncompetitive pay rates. We also understand that they had an under resourced operational delivery team causing major issues during the project ramp up and avoidable stress and increased pressure on the MHI Vestas management team.

Resolution
We were approached by MHI Vestas who asked that we increased our involvement in the project to resource all vacant positions as quickly as possible and through having a regular site presence help bring stability to an unstable workforce.

Response
Boston Energy’s operational recruitment team worked “around the clock” to take every step possible in the recruitment process to make sure we appointed Technicians that were most likely to stay for the required period minimising further turnover. A site visit plan was agreed with the customer and dedicated operational delivery resource was implemented.

Result
The project ran at the required resource levels, morale on site was restored and then importantly maintained. The MHI Vestas Management team were able to focus on their responsibilities to ensure the project was successfully completed. As a result of our involvement in this Boston Energy were awarded the Sea Green Project without having to go through any separate Tender process.
