Everything you need to know about our GWO Slinger Signaller Training Course

<

Boston Energy first began delivering wind turbine technician training in 2016. Our GWO Slinger Signaller training course was one of the first courses we offered at our training facility in Beverley, East Yorkshire.

Since 2016, we have expanded our GWO training offering, and now regularly deliver GWO Slinger Signaller at our own locations across Western Europe as well as suitable client sites across the UK. In this article we will delve into what you as a Wind Technician can expect when you come to Boston Energy to complete your Slinger Signaller GWO training!

1. Arriving at Boston Energy’s Technical Training Centre

Upon arrival at our purpose built GWO training centre, you will find the entrance to our car park round the back of Norwood House – we advise you arrive 15 minutes before the start time of your course in order to give yourself enough time to register. Our Slinger Signaller training is a 2 day training course which runs 9:00am-5:00pm each day.

You will need to bring with you:

  • A valid form of ID
  • A pair of sturdy work-boots
  • WINDA ID for all GWO training courses

We will provide all other PPE necessary. Once you have arrived and are waiting in the car park, please wait to be collected by a member of the Boston Energy team or if you are unsure, please ring the intercom at the rear door to Norwood House and someone will assist you.

Before the GWO Slinger Signaller course can take place, we will provide Medical Self-Assessments for you to fill out to give back to your instructor.

Boston Energy instructors Jason, Jacob or Dave will lead your GWO training and so therefore they will be your point of contact throughout the day spent at our training facility.

Lunch will be provided for you and so dietary requirements will be checked on the morning of your training. You will also have access to water, tea, coffee and basic refreshments during all courses with Boston Energy.

2. Getting started

Before the Slinger Signaller GWO training course can take place, your instructor will take you through to our training room within Norwood House, to take you through the theory and Health and Safety protocol for each course. Once this induction is complete, you will be guided to our training facility at the rear of our Beverley site.

 3. Course content

Our GWO Slinger Signaller course will cover the following topics and standards:

  • Working in accordance with Global Wind Organisation (GWO) standards
  • The nature of the wind industry and our roles and responsibilities as slinger signallers
  • Identification of different types of lifting equipment, attachments and accessories
  • Pre and post operational checks of lifting equipment, attachments and accessories
  • Communication with the machine operator, whether it be hand signals, radios or other means of communication
  • Identifying the centre of gravity and the mass of loads
  • Preparing the area of operations and maintaining exclusion zones during the lifting operation
  • Securing different loads with a variety of different slinging methods
  • Carrying out end use storage and securing procedures for lifting equipment, attachments, and accessories

Upon successful completion of the GWO Slinger Signaller training course, you will be able to work within the wind industry and able to demonstrate and conduct correct slinging and signalling techniques during lifting operations both onshore and offshore.

So there you have it! After a busy 2 days at Boston Energy you will have completed your GWO Slinger Signaller training, and once the rest of your wind turbine technician training is completed you will be a fully certified wind technician ready to mobilise.

Don’t worry about remembering all this information though, as our handy Joining Instructions will automatically be emailed to you once you have purchased a GWO training course with us to remind you of everything.
