Kicking for a Cause: Boston Energy joins RWE & Vestas for Charity Football Match

<

It was time to put down tools for the weekend and pick up our football boots, for some friendly, competitive games of charity football.

In renewable energy, collaboration and camaraderie are just as important as innovation and technology. Boston Energy was delighted to be invited to take part in the Humber Renewables Cup, supported by RWE and Vestas, and raising money for charity.

The tournament, arranged by RWE Turbine Technician, Declan Clarke, brought together a mix of wind industry OEM’s and developers, site teams, training providers, suppliers, and contractors. Twelve teams took part in a total of 8 rounds of 15-minute matches, with the winning team from the final match taking home the cup.

All entry fees went towards Lincs Inspire, who run a local gym in Grimsby and work with the local community to rehabilitate those with impairments, chronic illness, and disabilities. They also coach people through doctors’ referral schemes back into good health after illness. This money in particular will go to the funding of new equipment and refurbishment of current facilities at their gym in Grimsby which currently relies on Lottery Funding.

Thomas Needler, Operations Support Officer who played on behalf of Boston Energy said of the event,  “I had a great time at the charity football event. The atmosphere was fantastic, and I was fortunate to score a goal during the games. The cheers from the crowd and my teammates’ excitement made the experience even more enjoyable. It was a memorable day of football and all for a great cause.”

The event managed to raise £3681 for the charity.
