Technical Trainer

Reporting to the training manager of Boston Energy with cross-functional reporting to the Boston Energy operational team.

  • The Technical Trainer is responsible for adapting the technical training material and programs provided by the Boston Energy Training Department and then delivering these to the attending delegates in the chosen format.
  • The trainer must show great versatility by combining personable, honest, clear training information and knowledge along with excellent communication skills whilst always maintaining a good relationship with the delegates.
  • They will have an ability and experience of a similar role and thus will be able to propose development, updates and the validation of the course material in connection with the technical training.
  • Trainer should be willing and able to travel and be away from home.

Responsibilities include:

  • Technical training of staff
  • Technical support for engineers where required
  • Technical advisor for tools and equipment
  • Using the official Boston Energy training materials, adapt & deliver high quality technical training programs to our internal staff and our customers in order to significantly improve the technical knowledge of the delegates
  • Be a source for training in Boston Energy, adapting, updating and improving the existing technical training programs to the world market, and as well as proposing new training material for all deliverables offered by Boston Energy.
  • Verification and quality check of all certification, inspection, maintenance, repair and checklist paperwork
  • Management of all online management systems and client portal access
  • Preparing work instructions, scopes of work and further technical documents
  • Preparing risk assessment and method statements for all tasks and sites
  • Respect the standards of the accrediting bodies for the training created, ensuring quality courses are provided and communicated to all delegates.
  • Assist in the development of the policy and procedures, as well as in the development of the planning of training for which will encourage new and existing customers to attend training events on a regular basis.
  • Using available company resources, stay up to date with all technical issues by product, sources, standards and legislative requirements to ensure that all delivered training addresses these specific guidelines which will ensure continuous compliance.
  • Implement and manage the administrative follow-up related to the various course work and accreditation. of the training portfolio.
  • Define and communicate the key performance indicators and any other reporting requirements. Participate in the development of training budgets, growth areas, and future training markets.
  • Technical advisor on parts
  • Evaluation of Engineers undertaking Inspection activity and associated tasks
  • Toolbox talks preparation and delivery to engineer
  • Management of all technical documents and forms
  • Liaising with customers for technical support
  • Perform thorough examination, inspection, service, maintenance and repair on all training centre fitted equipment
  • Support for Technical Manager
  • Delivery of wind industry specific training for Internal & External participants
  • Any other tasks as required relevant to the role

Related tasks:

To welcome and depart all training course attendees in a professional manner and to communicate the Boston Energy culture at all times in order to encourage, maintain and expand the quality and volume of courses delivered. Work alongside the wider team to proactively market the training programs and specific training events through attendance, email and other sources.

Key skills:

  • Has a strong technical background and must be comfortable with new technologies:
  • Strong experienced delivering and developing technical training programs.
  • Experience of providing technical support and information as a trainer/instructor.
  • Knowledge in the renewable energy market, specifically safety training and technical training and/or with a hydraulic, electrical and mechanical bias.
  • A motivated self-starter, proactive and focused on personal and business improvement.
  • Formal training instructor qualifications. Formal renewable energy qualification or transferable experience.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain a high level of accuracy.
  • Proficient oral and written communication.
  • Familiarity with adult training techniques.
  • Beneficial knowledge / skills/ experience
  • Learning management systems
  • Virtual training/ e-learning
  • Relevant training knowledge/ skills.
  • Experience working with a multi-national approach.
  • Working in a training centre environment

Reports to: Technical Training Manager

Minimum Educational Qualifications:

  • GCSE or equivalent Mathematics and English
  • Formal relevant engineering qualification relevant (City and Guilds Level 2 or similar as a minimum)

Desired Educational Qualifications:

  • IOSH managing safely

Minimum Previous Experience:

  • Proven experience of works related to renewable offshore and onshore energy
  • Experience of co coordinating complex and time restricted activities
  • Effective time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong relationships
  • Knowledge of the wind and energy industry to include detailed knowledge of;
  • Approved codes of practice, technical guidance, Health and Safety and regulatorycompliance, in addition to ensure compliance with technical and standards legislation

Other Skills:

  • Have a minimum Category B driving licence
  • Reliable and with a strong work ethic; being physically fit and healthy
  • Have a strong attention to detail and be methodical
  • Have the ability to use IT software such as Excel spreadsheet and Outlook.
  • Flexibility to assist colleagues in the business if required.
  • Full driving licence
