GWO First Aid & GWO Enhanced First Aid Training @ Boston Energy

Boston Energy Wind Turbine Technicians take part in GWO First Aid Training
<

Since 2019, Boston Energy have been delivering Wind Turbine Technician training at our Head Office facility in Beverley.

Located at Norwood House and accredited by GWO, our GWO training courses are delivered by instructors with real industry experience of working on turbines both onshore and offshore.

Two GWO training courses that are increasingly popular are the GWO Enhanced First Aid and GWO First Aid – both of which have refresher training available.

According to the GWO website, the aim of both GWO training courses is “to enable the participants to support and care for others working in the industry and to provide ongoing care to an ill or injured casualty over a short period of time while waiting for professional emergency rescue teams to arrive.”

GWO Enhanced First AidGWO First Aid Refresher Course

GWO Enhanced First Aid includes the same training as GWO First Aid, whilst also covering new areas, ensuring Wind Turbine Technicians achieve a basic understanding and skills regarding the following:

  • Understand the importance of carrying out Enhanced First Aid in a safe and sound manner in accordance with the legislative requirements
  • Identify and explain normal function, normal signs and symptoms of injuries and illnesses related to the human body
  • Demonstrate understanding and correct order of management in an emergency situation
  • Understand correct use of life saving first aid using the primary survey
  • Understand correct use of the secondary survey
  • Demonstrate what you have learned in various basic and enhanced first aid scenarios

Head of Operational Delivery and training Guy Raynor goes into further detail on the difference between GWO First Aid and GWO Enhanced First Aid.

“The Enhanced First Aid is the basic First Aid as well as the teaching of course material that is the next level on. The basic First Aid covers dropped objects, minor incidents, burns, unresponsive casualties, crushes, chemical burns etc. Enhanced First Aid would build on those and teach; heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, eye injuries, shock, fractures, unresponsive casualties, catastrophic bleeds, spinal injuries and psychological First Aid. Depending on whether a Wind Turbine Technician would require both GWO First Aid Training and GWO Enhanced First Aid is down to the site they are working on, however it is becoming mandatory on a more regular basis to complete both GWO training courses. Customer, site, job role and location all seem to have an influence on whether it is required, preferred or optional.”
